What a face rating is supposed to tell you
A face rating is a way of turning facial proportions into a single number. The idea is not new — dating apps, contests and now the looksmaxxing community all argue about scores out of ten — but most of the tools behind those numbers are black boxes. This one is not. Your face rating is built from five measured proportions, each scored on its own before they combine:
- Facial symmetry: how closely your left and right halves line up.
- Vertical thirds: whether your face divides into balanced brow, mid and lower sections.
- Golden ratio: how near your length-to-width and feature ratios sit to φ ≈ 1.618.
- Canthal tilt: the slant of the axis between your eyes.
- Jawline: the width and definition of your lower face.
Because the breakdown ships with the rating, you can see which measurement is pulling your number up or down instead of staring at a bare score.
Face rating app versus website — which do you need?
The typical face rating app makes you download it, sign up, watch an intro, and often pay to remove a watermark from your own result. A free online face rating does the same measurement in a browser tab with none of that friction. The differences that matter:
- No install: open the page and rate a photo in seconds, on phone or desktop.
- No sign-up: there is no account wall and no email collection.
- No upload: the model runs on your device, so your photo stays local.
- No watermark: the report card you export is clean.
The trade-off is that a browser tool cannot run models quite as heavy as a native app. For landmark-based proportion measurement that gap is irrelevant — the accuracy is in the geometry, not in a bigger neural net.
Why face ratings differ across tools
Paste the same selfie into three raters and you usually get three numbers. That is not proof one of them is lying — it reflects genuine design choices. Tools disagree because they weight symmetry against jawline differently, normalise to different ideal values, and vary in how sensitive they are to head angle and lighting. A rating is best read as a snapshot from one measurement recipe, which is exactly why the per-metric detail matters more than the headline number.
How to get an accurate face rating
Facial landmark measurement is precise, so the photo quality sets the ceiling on accuracy. A turned or wide-angle selfie distorts the very distances the rating depends on. For a fair face rating:
- Look straight into the camera rather than past it.
- Keep your whole face in frame with a little space above the hairline.
- Use soft, even light and avoid a shadow split down the nose.
- Hold the camera at eye level and an arm's length away to limit lens distortion.
